Prompt IV – Interaction

The video What Drives our Food Choices?” I found on Youtube is about determinate of individual’s food choices. The video presents detailed knowledge about a subtopic which is related to the interactive learning resources project about food studies.

Learners will be able to take notes, think about and relate themselves to the topic. The video uses PowerPoint that outlines all the significant points and examples, as the background. It is convenient for students to take notes. Having the doctor expands and explains the key points from the video gives learners opportunities to think about the topic. Since Dr. Vendrame provides many real-life examples to support his points, the learners can easily relate themselves to the video.

I would suggest learners use the knowledge they learn from the video in their daily lives and comment if the video solves any questions regarding food choice. They can also choose to email me directly if they prefer not to comment. It makes the knowledge easier for students to remember since it is relatable. This activity would require learners to use a computer or mobile phone with data plans to access the Internet to comment down the video.

I would be providing feedbacks through email or Youtube comment section. YouTube is an excellent platform since I can directly reply to their comments down in the comment sections. They would need Internet to access their email or YouTube.

The video is very informative; however, it will be better if they could add more interactive questions. It ensures the learners to be more engaged and focused. Interactive questions promote dialogue’s effectiveness (Harabagiu, S., Hickl, A., Lehmann, J., & Moldovan, D., 2005).

The video address two of the potential barriers: poor eyesight and English language learners. For individuals who have poor vision, they can comprehend the content by listening to the audio since all the information on the background PowerPoint is well explained. Youtube has a subtitle function, and it can provide automatic translated subtitle for any video which benefits English language learners. If they re advanced learners, they can turn on English subtitles to better understand the content, or they can use the translated caption and set it to their mother languages.
