Prompt II – Cooperative learning approach

Cooperative learning approach is a learning technique which is based on group work and its main purpose is to help the involved learners showcase the positive effect of interdependence while ensuring that they achieve personal responsibility. The students are required to work with one another, but they are assigned different tasks which the instructor requires them to complete. This learning approach is utilized by teachers whenever they require students to be socially active, develop soft skills, and be able to work together, assist one another as well as develop a sense of personal responsibility. The cooperative learning approach involves three stages; the pre-implementation stage which involves specifying the objectives, grouping the class members, assigning roles as well as arranging the room, the implementation phase entails monitoring of the groups, intervening if needed and assisting students and finally the post implementation phase which includes provision of closure by summarizing the topic, evaluating the learning of the students and reflecting on the academic assignment and group structure.

The topic that my group is designing is “Food handling and preparation”. The pre-implementation phase would include determining the objectives of this study such as “which were the food handling and simple preparation techniques which were used”. In this stage the instructor would give an introduction of this topic, give the group members tasks such as researching on the factors of using ingredients and the factors which influenced the food choices in Canada. After all members are given the various task, the instructor would then monitor the progress of each group through listening to the data that every individual present on the tasks they are required to accomplish. In a case where the individual give swallow details, the instructor ought to further discuss the topic by maybe demonstrating other factors that resulted in the food choices made in Canada. After ensuring that all students present substantial details on their assigned tasks, the instructor should then help the group members summarize the details through offering information of the expectations of the lesson and giving additional information which helps students use the skills and knowledge they have gather to predict future food choices (Arendale, 2017). Eventually the students could be given reflective exercises which enable them to demonstrate their learning capability on the topic and assess the benefit of the group structure. Cooperative learning approach enables students to be able to understand the concepts which are introduced in the class on their own as well as share the details with the others. It ensures that students develop a sense of personal responsibility in handling the tasks given to them and allows them to be able to comprehend the details so that they share with others and enable them to learn also.
